Bengaluru, Feb 2 (Reporter) When the COVID-19 pandemic brought life to a halt, many withdrew into the safety of their homes, navigating an uncertain future. But for Golakh Parida, a 45-year-old Chartered Accountant-turned-businessman, the crisis became a turning point. After spending over two decades in Tamil Nadu, Parida returned to his native village of Jalahari, Odisha, with a mission—to drive meaningful change through sustainable development and community support. One of Parida’s first initiatives was addressing Jalahari’s infrastructure deficiencies. Recognising that connectivity is vital for rural development, Parida personally funded the construction of a 1.5 km concrete road at a cost of over ₹50 lakh. "Covering even the smallest gullies, this project improved transportation, enabling villagers to access essential services and fostering economic opportunities," he told UNI here on Sunday. Understanding the role of recreation in shaping young minds, Parida also prioritised community spaces. He spearheaded the construction of a clubhouse equipped with carrom and table tennis tables, providing youth with a safe and engaging environment. Looking ahead, he plans to develop a playground and a mini-stadium featuring tennis and badminton courts—an initiative aimed at fostering both physical well-being and community spirit. Beyond infrastructure, Parida recognised the financial distress faced by many villagers during the lockdown. In response, he offered financial assistance of up to ₹30,000 to struggling families for home repairs and construction. This crucial support enabled them to improve their living conditions at a time when economic uncertainty loomed large. Safety was another key concern. With many streetlights lying defunct, poorly lit roads posed risks, especially for women and children. To address this, Parida personally ensured the repair and replacement of non-functional bulbs, significantly enhancing the village’s security. Although Parida has returned to Chennai with his family once the pandemic subsided, his commitment to Jalahari remains steadfast. His brothers continue to oversee ongoing projects, ensuring that his vision for the village endures. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to “adopt one village” and contribute to its progress, Parida sees his contributions as just the beginning. His journey from businessman to community leader exemplifies how individual action can drive collective upliftment. Parida's efforts stand as a testament to the transformative power of sustainable development, financial empowerment, and a clear vision—proving that even in the darkest times, one person’s determination can illuminate the path to progress for an entire village...////...
