Chennai, Nov 19 (Reporter) Hours after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M.K Stalin condemned
imposition of Hindi language in its website homage, the LIC, while expressing regret,
attributed it to a technical problem and said the issue was resolved.
In a post, LIC said the issue was now resolved and the website was available in English/Hindi language.
It also expressed its deep regret for the inconvenience caused.
"Our Corporate website licIndia.in was not shuffling language page due to some technical
problem, issue resolved now website available in English/Hindi language. Inconvenience
caused deeply regretted. -Team LIC", it said.
Mr Stalin, who is also the President of the ruling DMK, and leaders of various political parties, including Opposition AIADMK Leader Edappadi K Palaiswami, PMK Founder Dr.S.Ramadoss
and ousted AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Tuesday condemned
the Hindi imposition in LIC website home page.
In a statement, Mr Stalin demanded immediate rollback of this linguistic tyranny.
The LIC website has been reduced to a propaganda tool for Hindi imposition and even
the option to select English was displayed in India. It is nothing but cultural and language
imposition by force, trampling on India's diversity, he said.
He said "the LIC website has been reduced to a propaganda tool for Hindi imposition.
Even the option to select English is displayed in Hindi!".
"This is nothing but cultural and language imposition by force, trampling on India's diversity.
LIC grew with the patronage of all Indians. How dare it betray the majority of its contributors?,
he added.
"We demand an immediate rollback of this linguistic tyranny", Mr Stalin added.
Mr Palaniswami also strongly condemned it and said the centre was trying to impose Hindi.
Dr Ramadoss said the home page of the LIC website which was so far in English, has now
been changed to Hindi and it was a blatant imposition of Hindi on other language speaking
people and strongly condemned the Hindi imposition by LIC.
Demanding that the LIC's Home page should be changed to English immediately, he said
Tamil should also be included in the Home page, which has both English and Hindi, now.
"A sudden preference for Hindi alone is not acceptable when all the language speaking
people in India are customers of LIC", he said.
"Even names of consumer goods worth Rs.10 being sent to Tamil Nadu for sale, are printed
in either Tamil or English", he pointed out.
"But LIC, which has a huge customer base in Tamil Nadu, has made the main page of its
website in Hindi and has created an environment where they have to search and choose
English language services, which is an insult to Tamil Nadu customers", Dr Ramadoss
said.
"The central government and its agencies have been trying to impose Hindi on the people
who speak other languages including Tamil for a long time", he said.
Despite facing opposition many times in this attempt, they never give up. Be it central
government or LIC, they should realize that they belong to all people and not only to
Hindi speaking people, he said.
Mr Panneerselvam termed it as an attempt to impose Hindi and urged the Centre and LIC
to revert it back to English, besides including Tamil in it...////...
