Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu) Sep 23 (Reporter) A notorious history-sheeter, who was wanted by the police in a murder case was shot in the leg and nabbed by the police, after he allegedly attempt to attack a police team in a bid to escape at Thiruvanaikovil locality here on Monday evening.
Police said Jambukeswaran alias Jambu (36), has 15 criminal cases pending against him for offences including murder, attempt to murder, extortion etc under Tiruchirapalli police jurisdiction.
Jambu and his four associates murdered another history-sheeter M.Suresh alias ‘Attukutty’ Suresh (35) at Ambedkar Nagar in Srirangam, when he was riding a motorcycle with his wife Rahini (30) last night. They also attacked Rahini when she attempted to rescue her husband from the gang.
The murder was to avenge the killing of ‘Thalavetti’ Chandru, a close friend of Jambukeswaran.
Attukutty Suresh murdered Thalavettti Chandru over enmity in 2020 and subsequently arrested by the police. He was released on bail.
A special police team arrested four persons involved in the murder of Attukutty Suresh, while the prime accused Jambukeswaran was absconding.
Meanwhile, acting on a tip off, a police team rounded up Jambukeswaran in a hideout at Thiruvanaikovil. On seeing the police, he attempted to attack and escape from them.
Police fired at Jambukeswaran’s leg in self defence and overpowered him. He was immediately taken to Srirangam government hospital for bullet injury.
