HP experiences increased snowfall, leading to disruptions in power supply

Shimla, Feb 20 (Reporter) The inclement weather disrupted power supply, roads, and transport services due to wind storms and snowfall in the past 24 hours in the state. Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti had 44 cm of snowfall, Gondola 38.5 cm,Keylong 35 cm, Hansa in Lahaul Spiti 30 cm, Kothi 20 mm in Kullu and Kalpa in 10.6 cm, ,Killar 90 cm of snowfall, Salooni ten cm, Jot five cm, Jalori Jot (Kullu) 30 cm, Atal Tunnel 13 cm,Manali five cm, Rohtang Top 4.5 ft, Sisu and Koksar 15 cm, Chitkul 45 cm. Sangal in Kinnuar had 21 mm of rain, Nichar 15 cm, Moorang 8.6 mm, Tissa 8 cm, Chamba 7 cm, Kufri 6 cm, and Dalhousie 5 cm. Around 1800 power transmission lines are down in the state due to thunderstorms and snowfall, as most of the roads are affected in Chamba, Kullu, Sirmuar, and Lahaul Spiti districts. A spokesperson for the State Disaster Management Authority said that 706 Distribution Transformer Line is down in Chamba and 315 DTR is off in Kullu district. In the past 24 hours, 228 major roads and four national highways have been disrupted, as 165 roads are snowbound in Lahaul Spiti and 52 roads in Chamba district. The Indian Meteorological Department also warned of an orange alert of heavy rain or snow and thunderstorms accompanied by hail, gusty wind with speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour, and lighting at isolated places.
