Hyderabad, Sep 3 (Reporter) Sixteen people were killed as record incessant rains lashed many parts of Telangana in the last four days, and the government urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the situation a national calamity.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who visited the flood affected areas in Suryapet and Khammam districts on Monday evening, said that 16 people lost their lives in the current spell of heavy rains, and preliminary estimation indicated a loss of Rs 5,438 crore in property damages.
Urging the Prime Minister to immediately release Rs 5,438 crore as temporary relief towards losses suffered by the state as thousands of houses were still submerged in water and that families had lost everything.
Old Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda districts suffered severe damages, he said crops have been damaged in lakhs of acres, canals and ponds breached, road networks cut off and electric substations and electric poles also damaged.
The government received information that Adilabad, Nirmal, and Nizamabad districts will receive more rains, he said that the entire administration is busy with providing relief to the flood victims, and a detailed survey on damages will be conducted after normalcy is restored.
An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs will be given to the kin of the deceased due to heavy rains, he said.
Rs 10,000 per acre of immediate assistance will be provided to the affected farmers; Rs 50,000 for cattle loss; and Rs 5000 will be given in case goats and sheep die. The officials of all departments have been asked to be vigilant and coordinate each other, the CM said.
Ministers and officers are working hard in difficult times, he said and questioned “why the main opposition (BRS) leader is maintaining silence. Contribute Rs 1000 crore or Rs 2000 crore from looted public money for flood relief.
Political gains are not important in this difficult situation, Reddy said, appealing to businesses and voluntary organizations to extend support to flood victims.
He sought Rs 5 lakh for construction per house under the PM Awas Yojana.
He urged the PM to undertake a tour of the rain-hit areas to have a first-hand view of the destruction caused to the road network, railway lines, houses, crops, and livestock.
During his visit, the CM visited several flood affected colonies in Khammam district and consoled the victims.
As part of a field visit in the flood affected districts, the Chief Minister reached Suryapet first from Hyderabad and reviewed the flood situation in Mothe mandal.
Later, the CM arrived in Khammam district and inspected the breached overflowing Palair canal and road damages at Nayakan Gudem.
The chief minister examined the collapsed left canal of Palair and then reached Khammam, where he visited Pollepalli, Padda Thanda, and Bokkalagadda colonies, which are inundated due to heavy floods in Munneru Vagu, and inspected the damaged houses.
Since the state has been receiving heavy rains for the last two days, the CM said that he has been reviewing the flood situation with the Chief Secretary, DGP, Disaster Response Commissioner, and Collectors continuously...////...
