Hyderabad, Aug 24 (Reporter) A tense situation unfolded at the State Women's Commission office in Buddha Bhavan on Saturday when BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) arrived to appear before the Women's Commission. Only KTR was allowed into the office, leading to protests from BRS women corporators who were not permitted entry. They raised slogans against the Congress government. Meanwhile, Congress women activists, led by their president Sunitha, also arrived at the scene, demanding an apology from KTR for his alleged derogatory remarks against women. The situation escalated as both groups of women activists—BRS and Congress—engaged in protests and scuffles. It may be noted here that the controversy began when KTR made remarks about the free bus travel scheme for women, which went viral on social media, leading to widespread criticism and allegations of misconduct. In response, Panchayat Raj and Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka questioned whether it was wrong for women to engage in activities like peeling ginger, garlic, or knitting while on the bus. KTR's controversial comment suggesting that "break dances in buses" would be permissible if necessary sparked further outrage. Women's groups objected strongly, and Congress leaders condemned the remarks, accusing KTR of insulting women. In a key development, the Telangana Women's Commission took suo moto cognizance of KTR’s comments. Commission Chairperson Nerella Sharada, in a tweet, stated that the remarks were intended to humiliate the women of Telangana and ordered an inquiry into the matter. Following the backlash, KTR issued an apology via Twitter (X), expressing regret over his comments. He acknowledged the criticism and clarified that he did not intend to insult women, stating, "I am sorry if my comments at yesterday's party meeting hurt my sisters.
