New Delhi, July 29 (Reporter) former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday sounded the alarm over, what he called, the presence of "illegal Bangladeshi nationals" in Bengaluru According to a statement issued by his office, Bommai argued that the situation poses a serious threat to both Karnataka and the nation as a whole. The problem originates at the Bangladesh border, where Bommai claims infiltrators are being supported by the West Bengal government. During his tenure as Karnataka Home Minister, Bommai’s team identified around 64 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and attempted to deport them. However, he says the West Bengal government did not cooperate, and their police did not assist Karnataka authorities, leaving many of these individuals still residing there. He also claimed that the "illegal immigrants" have spread beyond Bengaluru, with some settling in coffee estates in Chikkamagaluru and fishing ports. Bommai flayed political parties for prioritising their own interests over national security and called for both central and state governments to take decisive action. He stressed the need for proper ID verification for outsiders and the identification and expulsion of those with fake documents. Bommai’s skepticism extended to Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara’s recent promises to address the issue. He warned that mere statements are insufficient and emphasised that immediate, effective action is crucial to avoid serious repercussions...////...
