IMD issues thunderstorm and lightning forecast for 3 days in Tripura

Agartala, Apr 16 (Reporter) Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershower across Tripura in next three days. Barring Agartala, major parts of the state witnessed pre-monsoon rain in last few weeks. Agartala received light rainfall on Wednesday for the first time in 2025. Significantly, around 5 km radius of Agartala - housing over six lakh population has not recorded any measurable rainfall in last four months, resulting in an increase of dust particles in the air, abnormal growth of mosquitoes, and a drop of the groundwater table. However, experts attributed that due to pollution especially, high surface temperature in the city area affects the cloud movement and wind those disturb rainfall in March to May (pre-monsoon) in Tripura, and said, “Thunderstorm, hails and lightning are the main weather activity during pre-monsoon, hardly occurrence of moderate to heavy rainfall, and in city areas these activities gradually became negligible.” According to meteorologists, hill-lock Tripura doesn’t have a cloud formation mechanism even in the monsoon. Tripura receives rainfall from clouds formed in Bangladesh plains. Moreover, the pre-monsoon weather events traditionally hit Northern parts of Tripura - Dhalai, Unakoti and North Tripura districts. IMD forecast indicated thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed of 40-50 km per hour to occur in isolated places over North and Unakoti districts, and wind speed of 30-40 km per hour is very likely to occur over Dhalai, Khowai, and West Tripura districts in next three days...////...
