Bengaluru, May 12 (Reporter) The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating that Karnataka is poised to experience persistent rainfall over the forthcoming week.
Bengaluru, the state capital, is also set to witness light to moderate showers across various zones until May 13, accompanied by a yellow alert.
CS Patil, a scientist at the IMD, elucidated, "A trough or wind discontinuity has been observed stretching from Marathwada to Comorin across Interior Karnataka and Kerala at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea, off the coast of Kerala, is infusing ample moisture and converging over segments of South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu."
"The rainfall in Karnataka is anticipated to persist for the next seven days, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km per hour. Bengaluru will experience ongoing moderate showers, contributing to a further decrease in temperatures. The maximum temperature in Bengaluru is projected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be approximately 22 degrees Celsius over the ensuing five days," noted senior IMD scientist Patil.
While certain areas of Bengaluru encountered heavy downpours late Friday night, IMD officials cautioned that this was merely a precursor. "There is a substantial likelihood of heavy rainfall across Bengaluru and adjacent districts such as Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara over the next five days," added Patil.
He underscored that rainfall exceeding 7 cm is foreseen across the state, with moderate precipitation persisting in Karnataka throughout May, notwithstanding the dearth of rain in April.
Notably, Bengaluru recently recorded its lowest maximum temperature since March, following two months of relentless heat. The rainfall in Bengaluru has also led to severe waterlogging, resulting in traffic snarls throughout the city. Even Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport experienced waterlogging due to the heavy rains...////...
