Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Jan 19 (Reporter) India were edged out 4-3 by the Kyrgyz Republic in their third and final Group B match of the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Among Rogo Sports Hall here on Sunday.
The Indian women and finished at the bottom of Group B. Only the top two from the groups and the best third-placed team qualified for the main event in May.
Kyrgyz Republic, ranked 69th in the world, had to rely on a last-minute winner from Nazik Kumyshbek Kyzy (40’) and goals by Aizhan Boronbekova (10’), Nursuluu Murzakulova (12’) and Rebecca Zamthianmawi (OG, 18’).
Drishti Pant (3’) and a brace from Khushbu Saroj (34’, 40’) helped India push the match right to the wire.
Sunday’s defeat against the Kyrgyz Republic also ended India’s AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers campaign, according to a Olympic media release.
The Indian women’s futsal team were outplayed 5-0 in the opener by world number 31 Hong Kong China before being crushed 6-0 to hosts Indonesia, ranked 24th in the world, in the second outing.
It took just three minutes for India to break the deadlock through Drishti Pant, who created history by scoring the country’s first-ever international goal in women’s futsal.
Drishti’s goal put her in elite company in the annals of Indian football as she joined the likes of Sarangapani Raman and Tababi Devi as the country’s first-ever goal-scorers in men’s and women’s football, respectively.
Raman became the first Indian men’s footballer to score in a FIFA-recognised international when he netted against France on July 31, 1948. Tababi Devi scored India’s first goal in women's football against Hong Kong China on December 5, 1997.
Kyrgyz Republic levelled the score seven minutes later through Aizhan Boronbekova before Nursuluu Murzakulova put them ahead a couple minutes later.
A Rebecca Zamthianmawi own goal two minutes before the break further extended their advantage as the Kyrgyz Republic led 3-1 against India at half-time.
Determined not to bow ou without a fight, India gave it their all in the second period and it seemed like they had almost salvaged a point after Khushbu Saroj netted a brace in the final six minutes of the match.
However, Indian hearts broke right at the end as Nazik Kumyshbek Kyzy scored the winner for the Kyrgyz Republic with less than 25 seconds left to play...////...
