Bhubaneswar, Feb 22 (Reporter) India delivered an emphatic performance to secure a 4-0 victory over Ireland in the ongoing FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25 (Men) at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium here on Saturday. Nilam Sanjeep Xess (14’), Mandeep Singh (24’), Abhishek (28’) and Shamsher Singh (34’) found the net for the hosts, ensuring a dominant win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Ireland began the match with strong possession, attempting to put early pressure on India. However, the Indian defence, marshalled by Jarmanpreet Singh and Manpreet Singh, stood firm. Ireland earned the first penalty corner (PC) of the match but failed to capitalise, allowing India to gain momentum. The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Nilam Sanjeep Xess showcased individual brilliance to put India ahead. Buoyed by the lead, India controlled proceedings in the second quarter, creating sustained pressure on the Irish defence. Ireland sought to respond with quick transitions but found India’s defensive unit resolute. In the 24th minute, India doubled their advantage through Mandeep Singh, who converted a PC. Four minutes later, Abhishek capitalised on a deflected attempt by Amit Rohidas to slot home India’s third goal. At half-time, the hosts enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 lead. India resumed with high intensity after the break, pressing Ireland deep into their own half. Their aggressive approach bore fruit in the 34th minute when Mandeep Singh set up Shamsher Singh for a clinical finish, extending the lead to 4-0. Despite sustained attacking intent from Mandeep, Abhishek, and Manpreet, India could not add to their tally.
