Hyderabad, Aug 6 (Reporter) Telangana Minister of Civil Supplies and Irrigation Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress Government is dedicated to offering houses under the Indiramma houses project to all eligible beneficiaries in the state during the next five years. After touring a housing colony at Ramaswamy Gutta in Huzurnagar on Tuesday, Reddy spoke to the media and criticized the former BRS regime for their ten years of disregard for the housing sector. The excitement surrounding the 2BHK home proposal, he claimed, turned out to be a "jumla" and a false promise. He accused the former administration, led by K Chandrashekhar Rao, of defrauding the homeless and putting housing projects for marginalized groups on hold that were started when the Congress was in power Reddy mentioned that the Indiramma housing project in Huzurnagar town, with 2,160 units, was started in 2013-14 when he was the housing minister in the Congress government. He claimed that the BRS government kept the project in abeyance for 10 years. Upon coming to power in December 2023, he revived the projects and expedited the works, which are now in an advanced stage of construction. He expects to hand over 2,160 units to homeless people in the next three months. Minorities, SC, ST, BC, and the Congress government are given priority in the Indiramma housing plan. At a minimum of 3,500 dwellings in each constituency, a total of 4.5 lakh residences are to be built at a cost of Rs 22,000 crore. These 400 square feet homes will have a kitchen, a bathroom, and an RCC roof. This financial year, Rs 7,740 crore has been set aside for the housing initiative. Financial support of Rs 5 lakh for house construction would be given to eligible landowners, communities belonging to SC and ST will receive Rs 6 lakh. He also criticised the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre for neglecting Telangana in central housing schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). He said that unlike the BRS and BJP, the Congress focuses on delivering on promises made to the people, with sufficient budget allocations and clear deadlines for targets. Later in the day, Reddy took part in a number of development projects in Huzurnagar, such as handing out checks to Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi, laying the cornerstone for the ATC center workshop of the ITI college, and examining construction work at the Government Degree College building, Town Hall, 100-bed government hospital, stadium, and Christian cemetery. The Minister also took part in a protest sponsored by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) in support of the Scheduled Castes' classification following the Supreme Court's decision.
