Kolkata, Feb 2 (Reporter) Intense fog, poor visibility and cloudy conditions on Sunday largely affected flight operations at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in this metropolis, official sources said. Flight operations were disrupted since early Sunday morning owing to thick fog forcing the Kolkata Airport authorities to use Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) at 05.40 hours as the poor visibility affected the arrivals and departures for hours upto 08 00 hrs, sources added. Over the two hours period, the Airport authorities arranged some 17 arrivals and 22 departures with one arrival and ten departing flights experiencing disruptions. No aircraft had to return to the ramp, they added. Besides, one flight scheduled for Dhaka ( Bangladesh) had to be diverted to an alternate route for poor visibility. No diversions to Kolkata (CCU) were reported during the period. The waiting passengers were advised to check with airlines for updates as weather conditions continued to impact flight schedules. Authorities assured that operations would normalize as visibility improved. The visibility dropped to 100 meters in the morning. The weather condition also impacted flight services, impacting delays for several flights due to the fog. For the last 4/5 days, the influx of moisture-laden air from the sea, obstructing the northwesterly winds, has intensified the fog and clouded the sky. With visibility decreasing in the morning, precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of flights, trains and other modes of vehicular traffic across the state, sources added...////...
