Itanagar, Jan 27 (Reporter) Itanagar Police has arrested four persons, including a police personnel, for allegedly gangraping, sexually assaulting two minor girls at three different locations - Naharlagun Railway Station, and Assam’s Harmuti and Guwahati in a span of two days. The ‘adventure-savvy’ minor girls – one aged 14 years and another 12 years – had on last Friday voluntarily went out of their home at Itanagar for a trip to ‘Tripura’, thinking it to be in Assam before falling prey to the quartet, a senior police officer said on Saturday. Itanagar Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh said that on getting specific input that one of the minor girls has been sighted at Guwahati on January 21, ASP Garnima was deputed to Guwahati who in coordination with DCP, East Guwahati and three of her batch mates posted over there as ACPs, and along with Bhangagarh PS team rescued the girls and brought them back to Itanagar on January 22. Giving details of the case, the SP told the media that upon receipt of distressing complaints about the disappearance of two minor girls from their residence at Chandannagar near here since January 19, the Itanagar Women Police Station registered a kidnapping case under IPC Section 363 and entrusted it to SI Topi Josam for a thorough investigation. “As the investigation unfolded, crucial information surfaced indicating that the missing girls were in Guwahati, Assam. Collaborating seamlessly with the Bhangagarh PS team, a swift operation on January 21 resulted in the successful rescue of the girls. After having transported back to Itanagar on January 22, the subsequent inquiry unveiled a harrowing tale – the girls were not just missing; they were victims of a heinous crime, subjected to kidnapping and sexual assault in Harmuti and Guwahati. The perpetrators, identified as ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’, were swiftly apprehended,” the SP said without naming them. “A requisition for additional charges was initiated, prompting the case's reassignment to the capable hands of Inspector Nich Rupa. The girls disclosed that their escapade began voluntarily, seeking adventure, but took a sinister turn when they encountered an individual, who introduced himself as a police personnel at Naharlagun Railway Station, leading to their subsequent abduction. The accused transported them to Harmuti, where a hotel became the scene of unspeakable crimes. The investigation further unravelled connections to a parlour (saloon) in Guwahati, run by an individual identified as ‘D’. Asked why the names of the accused persons were not being shared, the SP said, "We cannot reveal names due to mandatory (Test Identification Parade) TIP proceedings that have to be done shortly. After that, names will be released.” He said that the prime accused ‘A’, aged 37 years, is a constable with the 2nd IRBn, Diyun, presently posted at Naharlagun. Accused ‘B’ (22) runs a hair cutting salon at Doimukh and is a permanent resident of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, while accused ‘C’ (23) runs a garage at Doimukh and is a permanent resident of Motihari, Bihar. The 30-year-old accused ‘D’, who is friend of accused ‘B’, runs a parlour at Guwahati, Assam and is settled there. A habitual offender, he has earlier been arrested for selling and possessing narcotics at Guwahati, the SP informed. Singh, while acknowledging the relentless efforts of the police team, led by ASP Garima, and supported by SDPO Kengo Dirchi, Itanagar WPS OC Inspector Rina Sonam, Inspector Nich Rupa, SI Rosy Singpho, SI Inya Tato, SI Topi Josam, and others, lauded their quick response and sensitive handling of the case. “Within a mere 48 hours of learning about the sexual assault, the team successfully identified and arrested unknown perpetrators across state boundaries,” he said.
