Jammu, Feb 3 (Reporter) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday welcomed the NCC cadets of the Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Directorate here at the Convention Centre.
In his address, the Chief Minister extended congratulations to the NCC contingent for their outstanding discipline, dedication, and the immense pride they have brought to the Union Territory.
He specifically commended Senior Under Officer S.U.O. Ekta Kumari, recognizing her exceptional leadership and the honour she has earned for the UT through her achievements. He also covered his journey as an NCC Cadet.
Addressing the cadets, the Chief Minister lauded the National Cadet Corps (NCC) for instilling discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility among youth.
He emphasized that the values upheld by the NCC play a crucial role in shaping the future of young individuals, fostering a spirit of service, and strengthening national pride.
He also urged NCC cadets to take an active role in addressing the growing concern of drug abuse among the youth. Acknowledging the influence and reach of NCC within communities, he encouraged cadets to lead awareness campaigns, conduct educational programs, and engage with society to prevent substance abuse and guide young individuals toward a healthier and more productive future.
“The NCC has always been a symbol of discipline and nation-building. I urge cadets not only to uphold these values but also to contribute to other social causes. By educating people about its harmful effects and carrying out awareness initiatives, NCC can play a transformative role in protecting the future of our youth,” the Chief Minister stated.
The Chief Minister assured the government’s full support for initiatives led by NCC that focus on youth empowerment, community engagement and drug abuse awareness.
He expressed confidence that with their unwavering commitment and leadership, NCC cadets will continue to make a positive impact on society while upholding the honour of the Union Territory and the nation.
The event was organized to celebrate the cadets’ remarkable achievements at the Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2025 and to acknowledge their dedication and excellence.
Earlier the ceremony commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Cadet Kumkum Sharma and Cadet Aryan Khajuria, who expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for his unwavering support for the NCC and youth empowerment.
In his introductory remarks, Cadet Aryan Khajuria highlighted Omar Abdullah’s distinguished leadership, recalling his contributions to the political and socio-economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
Cadet Kumkum Sharma proudly presented the achievements of the Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Directorate at RDC 2025.
Under the esteemed guidance of Additional Director General, Major General Anupinder Bevli, the Directorate secured one Raksha Mantri Commendation, four DG NCC Commendations Cards, ten 10 DG NCC Medallions, second Runner-up Trophy in both Group Dance and Ballet.
The cadets celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of JUO Abida Afreen, who was honoured with the Raksha Mantri Commendation Card and has been selected for the upcoming Mt. Everest expedition.
They also paid tribute to SUO Ekta Kumari, who brought immense pride to Jammu and Kashmir by leading the All India NCC Girls Marching Contingent as Parade Commander on Kartavya Path. Additionally, they recognized the achievements of SUO Ulfat Khan, who commanded the Prime Minister’s Rally during RDC 2024.
The success of the contingent was made possible under the able leadership and supervision of Col Amit Bhardwaj, ANO Lt Dr. Nitika, ANO S/O Ashaq, and GCI Dhaniya, who guided and mentored the cadets throughout their RDC journey.
The event featured an inspiring cultural performance by the cadets, showcasing their talent through Group Dance and Group Song, followed by a captivating account of their RDC journey, narrated by Cadets Rajveer, Sumit Malhan, and Alankrita Sharma.
As a token of appreciation, Major General Anupinder Bevli, ADG JK&L, presented a memento to the Chief Minister, expressing gratitude for his continued support towards NCC and youth development.
