Joshi calls for more trains in Hubballi review meeting

Hubballi, Dec 8 (Reporter) A key demand for the enhancement of train services in the Hubballi-Dharwad region was raised during a high-level review meeting at the South Western Railway (SWR) Headquarters. Dharwad MP and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi called for an increase in the frequency of train services between Hubballi and Varanasi, urging that the services be upgraded from weekly to bi-weekly. Joshi also proposed new train services connecting Hubballi with Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Ahmedabad, alongside the introduction of a local MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train linking Hubballi to several nearby stations, including Annigeri, Kundagol, Saunshi, Gudigeri, and Dharwad. The meeting, attended by Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, Uttara Kannada MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, and several local MLAs, also reviewed ongoing railway projects in the region. Among the projects reviewed were the Dharwad–Belagavi and Hubballi–Ankola new lines, alongside the development of major stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). Other key issues, such as the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs), were also discussed in detail. Somanna directed railway officials to expedite these projects, prioritising completion within set deadlines while addressing any hurdles in the process.
