Junior doctors take out rally demanding justice for RG Kar rape-murder victim

Kolkata, Nov 9 (Reporter) Junior doctors took out a massive rally in Kolkata on Saturday demanding justice for the 31-year-old female post-graduate trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The rally, sponsored by the West Bengal junior Doctors Front, a frontal organisation of the junior doctors of the state owned different hospitals, started from College Square to Esplanade andculminated at Rani Rashmoni Avenue where the doctors issued a symbolic "chargesheet" accusing some people allegedly involved the crime. The medics alleged that the threat culture still persists in the government hospitals and one of them claimed many of the medics were receiving fresh threats for participating in the protests since August 9. A wheelchair bound NRI medic took part in the rally and demanded justice to the trainee doctor, who has been named Abhaya. "Justice and health cannot have holidays but in this case the justice delayed," said a woman medic and insisted not to leave the street until the justice was conceded. A section of members of the general public sympathetic to their cause also took part in the rally. The doctors also set up platforms at all medical colleges in the city, featuring photos, banners and posters about the protests over more than three months since the murder of the doctor on August 9.
