Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji sworn in as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

Shillong, Oct 3 (Reporter) Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court on Sunday. Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew has been functioning as acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court after Chief Justice S Vaidyanathan superannuated on August 16. State Law Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Comingone Ymbon, Leader of Opposition and Trinamool Congress leader, Dr Mukul Sangma, Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew, Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary Donald Philips Wahlang and several other dignitaries were present at the ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Mukerji studied at the St. Xaviers school and college, Calcutta, and went on to pursue his degree in law from the University of Calcutta and also a degree in LLB from the University of London. Mukerji was enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practiced at the Calcutta High Court. Justice Mukherji practiced civil matters and concentrated more on Revenue and arbitration. He was also a senior panel counsel for the Government of India and the Damodar Valley Corporation. He was elevated to the bench of the Calcutta High Court as a permanent judge on May 18, 2009. Currently he is one of the senior judges of the Calcutta High Court. Initially, the Supreme Court collegium had first approved the appointment of Justice Tashi Rabstan as Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya but later amended to appoint Calcutta High Court Judge Mukerji as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court...////...
