Aizawl, Dec 25 (Reporter) Mizoram Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has curtailed his holiday in Andhra Pradesh after being named as Governor of Odisha.
He is scheduled to return to Aizawl on Friday, sources at Raj Bhavan confirmed on Wednesday.
The Governor, who travelled directly to Andhra Pradesh following the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council in Agartala last Saturday, initially planned to remain there till the New Year.
However, he informed Raj Bhavan officials of his revised schedule, likely to prepare for his move to Bhubaneswar Raj Bhavan, where he will take up his new role following the resignation of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das and accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
A Communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh was appointed as Mizoram’s new Governor.
Gen. (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, born on May 10, 1951, is a distinguished former Chief of Army Staff. After retiring from the Army, he entered politics and represented Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019 on a BJP ticket.
In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term, he served as Minister of State for External Affairs, as well as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for DoNER. During Modi’s second term, he held the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
