Bengaluru, Dec 26 (Reporter) Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of crossing a “despicable line” with its actions during the ongoing “100-year celebration” of the Belagavi session of the Indian National Congress.
In a strongly worded statement, Vijayendra criticised the Congress, alleging that the party had abandoned its legacy as a torchbearer of India’s freedom struggle and had become a “mere puppet” controlled by a single family.
"Their so-called ‘100-year celebration’ in Belagavi is a hollow spectacle, driven purely by selfish interests – a fact that every patriotic Indian clearly sees," he remarked.
The BJP State President also condemned the Congress for reportedly displaying an India map without Kashmir, calling it an insult to the nation’s sovereignty and an affront to the ideals upheld by Mahatma Gandhi.
"By doing so, they not only mock India’s sovereignty but also trample on the very ideals for which Mahatma Gandhi fought until his last breath," he said, questioning whether this was how the Congress intended to honour the historic Belagavi session and the memory of the Father of the Nation.
Referring to Congress party's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Vijayendra accused the party of hypocrisy. "From the false pretenses of ‘Bharat Jodo’ to distorting India’s territorial integrity, Congress has shown it cares for nothing but political theatrics," he stated.
He demanded a full and immediate apology from the Congress party to the people of India, terming the omission of Kashmir from the map as an act of "national betrayal."
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai accused the Congress of funding the AICC session using public money sanctioned by the Karnataka government.
Bommai called this practice "unheard of and uncalled for" and demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarify the provision under which these funds were approved. "This is an unfair use of public resources for political purposes," he stated, urging the Congress to provide an explanation.
The Belagavi session of 1924 holds significant historical importance, as it was the only Congress session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi. However, the current controversy over the map and accusations of political opportunism have overshadowed the celebrations.
Congress has yet to issue a response to these allegations...////...
