Bengaluru, July 2 (Reporter) The Karnataka BJP on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of involvement in a Rs 4,000 crore land scam. The Chief Minister has denied the accusations, calling them "baseless". Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R Ashoka, referring to Siddaramaiah as the "Golmaal" Chief Minister, asserted that Siddaramaiah cannot defend the allegations that sites were illegally allotted in his wife's name. "The concerned officers of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) have only been transferred, not suspended. Who are you trying to protect?" Ashoka questioned. Ashoka further claimed that two IAS officers had been appointed to cover up the scam. He suggested that the land scam and other corruption cases should be handed over to the CBI or a commission headed by a retired justice. Ashoka also demanded answers regarding the adoption of a 50:50 formula for allotting sites to Siddaramaiah’s wife, particularly in upscale localities. He questioned who had recommended the allocation of the sites to her, and, without the cabinet's consent, who had authorised the allotment of the sites. Ashoka doubted whether such a large-scale scandal could have occurred without the Chief Minister’s knowledge. In response to the accusations, Siddaramaiah rebuked Ashoka, stating that the LoP is unaware of the details surrounding the land allotment. The Chief Minister explained that the site was allotted to them during the BJP's tenure and that his wife’s property, 3.16 acres near the ring road, was not acquired. He stated that MUDA developed and distributed sites, and according to the law, MUDA agreed to a 50:50 site-sharing formula. He added that his family agreed to this and instructed MUDA to compensate them when the BJP was in power. Sites were allotted at different locations, and he questioned what was wrong with that. MUDA had stated they would provide a 50:50 share, and allotments were made accordingly. Clarifying further, Siddaramaiah said that the land was purchased by his brother-in-law, Mallikarjuna, who then gifted it to his wife. MUDA, knowingly or unknowingly, converted it into sites and distributed them, making it MUDA property, and they were compensated. The government has initiated an inquiry into the allegations related to the allotment of sites in Mysuru city through MUDA, with a report expected within four weeks. Minister for Urban Development Bhyrathi Suresh convened an emergency meeting, declaring the cancellation of sites distributed under the 50:50 formula. Four officers, including the MUDA Commissioner, were transferred in connection with the scam. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that the officers were transferred to prevent them from tampering with evidence. Regarding the involvement of the Chief Minister’s family, Parameshwara said the allegations could not be assumed true without an investigation revealing the facts...////...
