Bengaluru, July 26 (Reporter) The Karnataka cabinet on Friday approved the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South district, sparking mixed reactions among political leaders and the public.
State's Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil stated, "It is because of the aspirations and representations made by people's representatives and people at large... It is to get the Brand Bengaluru name. Bengaluru is a brand, you can't say 'no' to that. If it helps everyone, it is fine."
Patil emphasised that the change is driven by the desire to capitalise on Bengaluru's global recognition as a brand, which could bring economic and developmental benefits to the region.
Union Minister and BJP MP Pralhad Joshi criticised the decision to rename Ramanagara, accusing the Congress party of being anti-Ram and motivated by vote bank politics and real estate interests.
"This shows their allergy towards Ram and Ram Mandir, even to the name of Ram. They are quite allergic. They used to do it while we were constructing the Ram Mandir. But with the decision to rename Ramanagara, Congress party and Congress Government have proven that they are against Ram," he stated.
Joshi highlighted that there was no demand for the change and condemned the proposal, urging its withdrawal and warning of BJP-led protests. "MP Manjunath had also written that the name should not be changed. But this is being done for vote bank politics and greed for real estate," he said.
"Siddaramaiah says that when it comes to Ram, he has Ram in his name. If that is the case, why are you doing this? I strongly condemn this and I ask, demand and urge them to withdraw this proposal, otherwise BJP will strongly oppose this and the local unit will agitate for this." Joshi added.
The renaming has sparked a debate among the residents of Ramanagara and the broader public. While some see the change as a strategic move to enhance the district's profile and attract investment, others view it as an unnecessary alteration that ignores the area's historical and cultural identity...////...
