Bengaluru, Oct 12 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday strongly criticised the central government's allocation of tax revenue, calling it a "gross injustice" to the state. Siddaramaiah urged all Kannadigas to unite and raise their voices against what he termed as discriminatory treatment in the devolution of central funds. "Out of the ₹1,78,193 crore allocated to 28 states, Karnataka received only ₹6,498 crore, which is a meagre share. This clear injustice demands a collective response from every Kannadiga, transcending caste, religion, and political affiliations," the CM declared during a press briefing here. He emphasised the need for a public debate to ensure Karnataka secures its fair share while respecting the federal structure. "Let this Vijayadashami be the beginning of our fight for fairness," Siddaramaiah added, drawing a parallel between the festival’s symbolism of justice and the state’s current situation. The CM also pointed out that despite Karnataka being a major contributor to the national exchequer, the state's tax share has been significantly reduced over the years. "Karnataka contributes ₹4.5 lakh crore to the national treasury annually, but it only receives 15 paise for every rupee it sends to the Centre," he remarked, citing specific disparities in comparison to other states. Siddaramaiah revealed that between 2021 and 2026, Karnataka lost nearly ₹62,275 crore due to a reduced tax share under the 15th Finance Commission. Furthermore, despite recommendations for special grants to Karnataka, including ₹5,495 crore to mitigate these losses, the Centre declined to release the funds, he said. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar echoed the CM’s sentiments, vowing to fight the injustice. He criticised BJP MPs and Union Ministers from Karnataka for their silence on the issue, calling it "shameful" and promised action to ensure Karnataka receives its rightful dues. The Karnataka government is expected to escalate its protest in the coming days as the state grapples with the financial implications of these decisions...////...
