Belagavi, Dec 20 (Reporter) Karnataka Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar's request to discuss an alleged derogatory remark by BJP leader CT Ravi was denied by the Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, prompting her to file a police complaint, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar alleged.
"She (Hebbalkar) filed a complaint before the Council Chairman, but he refused to allow her to discuss the issue. Instead, he abruptly adjourned the house sine die and ended the session. Left with no other option, theMinister ultimately filed a case with the police, and now the law is taking its course," he told reporters here on Friday.
Shivakumar alleged that Ravi was holding discussions with leaders at the police station, "giving the impression that the BJP legislative party meeting was taking place there, and further accused the BJP of harbouring unruly elements."
The incident, which took place amidst legislative protests, has now escalated into a major political controversy.
"Yesterday, when this incident happened, the whole country was protesting. The legislative party was also protesting in the state assembly and state council over the statement of the Union Home Minister (Amit Shah) against Dr BR Ambedkar. When she (Hebbalkar) questioned him (Ravi) for his remark about Rahul Gandhi, he called her ... This is the culture of the BJP. BJP is filled with goondas," Shivakumar alleged.
The BJP, however, has defended Ravi and dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. The police are investigating the case, even as the row deepens the divide between Karnataka’s ruling Congress and the opposition BJP...////...
