Belagavi, Jan 21 (Reporter) Karnataka Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday launched a rebuttal against the BJP, referring to it as the "principles of the Godse party."
He accused the BJP of lacking an understanding of the freedom struggle and the essence of the Constitution.
"We don't want to hear about the principles of whatever party associated with Godse," Shivakumar told reporters in response to BJP's criticism of Congress party's 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' event.
He went on to highlight the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi and the Gandhi-Nehru family, adding, "Mahatma Gandhi ji sacrificed his life, Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life, Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed his life, and Sonia Gandhi sacrificed her power as she declined to become Prime Minister in 2004. Has any other political party leader ever done this in the history of Indian politics?"
Shivakumar’s comments were directed at BJP's allegations questioning Congress party's alignment with the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Ambedkar.
In a separate exchange, Shivakumar was asked about the recent gangrape incident in Bengaluru. "I am not aware of it. I am still attending this programme, and I will discuss it later," he replied.
