Vijayapura, Oct 28 (Reporter) In a significant move, Karnataka Minister HK Patil announced the withdrawal of notices concerning the alleged marking of farmers' lands as Waqf properties.
This decision follows complaints from farmers in the Vijayapura district who claimed their lands had been incorrectly designated.
Patil acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, stating, "We recognise the error that has occurred, and the notices issued will be retracted. An investigation is necessary to determine how this mistake happened, after which appropriate action will be taken against those responsible."
The minister reassured farmers that the government has no intention of converting their lands into Waqf properties, affirming, "If any mistakes have been made, they will be corrected, and those accountable will face consequences. The land rightfully belongs to its rightful owners," he told reporters on Monday.
This controversy has raised significant concerns among the agricultural community, which is keenly awaiting the government's next steps in resolving the issue.
Bangalore South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya met with farmers from Vijayapura, who discovered that their properties had been erroneously marked as Waqf assets. He strongly criticised the Congress government over the situation.
In an attempt to clarify the "confusion" surrounding 1,200 acres in Honawada of Tikota taluk designated as Waqf property, Industries Minister MB Patil, responsible for the Vijayapura district, explained that this mislabelling resulted from an "error" in the gazette notification.
Patil specified that only 11 acres of the 1,200 acres are actually Waqf properties. He announced the formation of a task force led by the Deputy Commissioner to address these issues. The Law Minister remarked that MB Patil's statement has effectively resolved the controversy, adding that it would be inappropriate for the BJP to prolong the matter for political gain.
When questioned about the BJP's demand for the resignation of Waqf Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, he responded, "Why? If the notices were issued incorrectly, it falls to the Deputy Commissioner to rectify them, as there is a government above that. It is unjust to demand the resignation of Zameer or anyone else for the mistakes made by the Talati (village accountant) or Tahsildar...////...
