Bengaluru, Oct 21 (Reporter) The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the All India Dalit Action Committee, which sought an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for remarks made against Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna. Gandhi had accused Revanna of committing "mass rape" in Hassan, which, according to the petititoner, insulted the modesty of Indian women. A bench consisting of Chief Justice NV Anjaria and Justice K Aravind deemed the PIL a waste of judicial time and imposed a fine on the petitioner. The petition had claimed that Gandhi's statements amounted to hate speech and spread gender-based misinformation. The court also turned down the petitioner's plea for at least issuing a notice to Gandhi. The State’s counsel argued that the PIL was filed with the intent to harm rather than seek justice. The court upheld this view, concluding the case without further consideration.
