Hubballi, Oct 31 (Reporter) In a strong rebuttal to Union Minister Prahlad Joshi’s call for his removal from the Karnataka State Cabinet, Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan stated that the former's focus on the Hindu-Muslim issue reflects a lack of understanding of the broader socio-political landscape. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Zameer asserted that his position in the Cabinet was secure, claiming he had not engaged in any acts of promoting communal hatred. "I am Indian, 24 karat gold," he remarked, emphasising his commitment to national unity. The Minister urged Joshi to refrain from communal-based politics, suggesting that such discussions should remain within the confines of his home. Zameer reiterated that the lands of farmers, the backbone of the nation’s food supply, were inviolable, arguing that political manoeuvring from the BJP was evident as byelection approach in Karnataka and Assembly election in Maharashtra. In response to queries regarding the management of Waqf properties, the Congress leader clarified that the ‘Waqf Adalat’ was established to protect these assets, denying any recent land acquisitions from the government. He revealed that while the Waqf Board currently oversees 23,000 acres, a staggering 84,000 acres have been encroached upon. He also expressed his determination to collaborate on resolving these encroachments, noting that 700 acres of land from the Muzrai Department had also been unlawfully occupied. Addressing recent protests in Vijayapura, Zameer accused the BJP of misleading farmers. He reassured that no farmer would encounter difficulties, referencing discussions with the district-in-charge Minister MB Patil, who had directed the Deputy Commissioner to assist a BJP fact-finding committee with necessary documents...////...
