Bengaluru, Nov 11 (Reporter) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday accused the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) of opposing the Congress government's welfare initiatives, a day after JDS patriarch and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda claimed the regime would soon discontinue the Gruha Lakshmi scheme
Gruha Laxmi is a flagship initiative of the incumbent Congress regime. aimed at improving the lives of women. "Deve Gowda has no grounds to claim the scheme will end. The BJP and JD(S) may oppose it, but we are determined to continue helping our mothers and sisters," Shivakumar retorted.
Deve Gowda had on Sunday evening accused the Karnataka government of being "bankrupt" and warned that it will soon end the popular scheme.
Gowda, speaking to a gathering in Channapatna, claimed that the state government had drained its funds and no longer had the financial resources to support its welfare schemes.
He also alleged that the Congress government was selectively distributing funds under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme as part of an election strategy. "This government is bankrupt. They don’t even have enough funds to fix the potholes in Bengaluru. After the by-elections, they will stop these payments again," Gowda said on Sunday evening.
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, one of the Congress government’s five guarantees, provides Rs 2,000 to women heads of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families across Karnataka. The scheme has become a cornerstone of the Congress party’s appeal to women voters ahead of the upcoming elections...////...
