Mandya (Karnataka), Feb 17 (Reporter) A 13-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his three-year-old cousin while playing police-thief game with a loaded gun at a poultry farm in Mandya district on Sunday, police said.
According to the Nagamangala police, the deceased was the son of migrant labourers from West Bengal, who were employed at a poultry farm owned by Congress leader Narasimhamurthy. The teenager was visiting his relatives along with his parents, who work on a neighbouring farm.
An investigating officer stated that the children were playing a game of thief-police when the older boy discovered a loaded gun on a shelf, kept there for security purposes. While handling the firearm, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his younger cousin in the abdomen. The bullet also wounded the child’s mother, who was nearby.
The injured boy was immediately rushed to the Nagamangala Taluk Government Hospital, but succumbed to excessive blood loss, police confirmed.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the presence of a loaded firearm within the premises.
Preliminary findings revealed that the weapon was licensed in the name of Narasimhamurthy, reportedly for farm security. Police are examining potential lapses in firearm safety regulations at the poultry farm.
