Wayanad, Nov 13 (Reporter) The by-poll to the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday registered a voter turnout of 64.27 percentage at the end of the voting process, which was lesser than the previous figures of 74.22 per cent in 2024 and 80.06 per cent reported in 2019. The official figure will be issued later on by the Election Commission. The polling started at a slow pace and only marked 50 percentage of turnout at around 1500 hours only and 62.23 per cent at 1700 hrs. Thiruvambadi and Ernad assembly segments recorded more polling than other five constituencies, located in three districts of Wayanad, Malappuram and Kozhikode, in the Wayanad parliamentary constituency. Special vehicle and three polling booths were arranged to cast votes for Wayanad disaster survivors of Mundakkai and Chooralmala. The low voter turnout has caused concern in UDF camps in Wayanad. Opposition leader V D Satheesh claimed that polling has decreased in LDF and BJP centres and further claimed that UDF candidate Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra will win by more vote margin than of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when her brother Rahul Gandhi had won by a margin of 4.3 lakh votes. In the April 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had won by 3.5 lakh votes. Meanwhile, LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri attributed the reason for low turnout to the people's opposition to the imposition of compulsory elections made by Rahul Gandhi. He claimed that all the LDF votes have been polled in the elections. CRPF and Armed Police personnel were deployed at 1,354 polling booths...////...
