Kerala: Caretaker commits suicide after setting private resort on fire

Kannur, Dec 25 (Reporter) A caretaker of the private resort committed suicide after setting the resort where he worked on fire due to alleged enmity with the owner at Payyambalam, one of the important tourist destinations in this district of Kerala on Wednesday. The deceased identified as Premanadhan (65) of Palakkad committed suicide by hanging in the well at his nearby house. About 10 people, including tourists staying in the resort and other staff escaped unhurt, police said. Two dogs held captive also died in the fire. Police also said Premanadhan was an employee since the last four years at "Bhanu's Beach enclave", a tourist resort. The incident took place around 1400 hours. The owner of the resort informed the caretaker about his dismissal from the job and a dispute arosed in the afternoon. Following this, Premanadhan released two dogs from a total of four caged dogs and brought them to the room. Then he locked the room and poured petrol inside the room and turned on the gas cylinder and set on fire. The manager and staff alerted the fire force and the police and fire force personnel rushed to the spot. Fire force personnel and police team began the rescue operations. Premanandhan suffered burn injuries on the back side. He fled to a nearby compound. During the search operations, Police and local residents found that he was hanged to death in a well, at his nearby house, by using the rope for fetching water. Two fire force units doused the fire, but the rooms of the resort were fully gutted. Town police shifted the body of Premanandhan to Kannur district hospital for postmortem...////...
