Palakakd, Nov 3 (Reporter) The missing body of a railway contractual sanitary worker was recovered by the fire brigade and scuba team from the Bharatha Puzha river, near the accident site at Shoranur, on Sunday evening. The body of Lakshamanan (48), resident of Salem in Tamil Nadu, was shifted to Palakkad district hospital for post-mortem and all the four bodies would be handed over to the relatives to be taken to their native place at Salem, on Monday (tomorrow), police said. As there are no injury marks in the body of Lakshmanan, prima facie it is suspected that he jumped from the railway track and drowned in the said river. However, only post-mortem would reveal the exact cause of his death, police said. Meanwhile, the Railway has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs one lakh to the deceased workers and terminated the contractor and also lodged a criminal case against him for his alleged negligence to ensure the safety of the workers. In this accident, four railway contract workers from a family, including two sisters and their husbands were killed, allegedly after being hit by the Kerala Express (12626) bound to Thiruvanananthapuram from New Delhi, at Shoranur. Three bodies of Valli (55), her husband Lakshmanan (60), Valli's sister Rani (45) were retrieved on Saturday evening and kept at district hospital at Palakkad after post-mortem. The body of Rani's husband Lakshmanan (48) was recovered in the evening. All the deceased hailed from Adimali-Puthur near Salem in Tamil Nadu and were camping at rented quarters near the Ottapalam railway station for the last few days.
