Kerala: MP Priyanka Gandhi visits tribal woman's house to console her family

Wayanad, Jan 28 (Reporter) Congress MP and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday visited the house of tribal woman Radha (47), who was killed by a tiger on January 24 when she was collecting coffee beans at Priyadarshini estate at Pancharakolli, and consoled the family members. She spent around half-an-hour and interacted with Radha's husband Appachan, son Aneesh and other relatives. AICC Organizing General Secretary K C Venugopal, KPCC president K Sudhakaran, Wayanad DCC president N D Appachan and Kalpetta MLA T Siddique accompanied her. During the one-day tour, the Wayanad MP also met the family members of N M Vijayan (70), former District Congress Committee (DCC) treasurer, who committed suicide along with son Jijesh (38), due to debts, allegedly by a cooperative bank job scam on December 27, 2024, at Bathery. Police arrested Congress MLA I C Balakrishnan, DCC president N D Appachan and former district Congress leader K K Gopinath on the charges of abetment of suicide of N M Vijayan and his son, and all of them were released on bail by a court. She also consoled the family members and interacted with them along with the Congress leaders of the State. Later she convened a review meeting at District Collectorate at Kalpetta with district Revenue and top officials, including District Forest Officer (DFO) and District Police Chief. After this, she addressed a public gathering at Meppadi, as part of State United Dmeocratic Front (UDF) "Malayora Samara Yathra" (hill campaign yatra) led by Oppositon leader V D Satheeshan. Priyanka Gandhi arrived at Kannur International Airport around 1130 a.m. and reached Wayanad by road. She will return to New Delhi, after attending the four scheduled programmes. Meanwhile, CPM workers waved black flags to Priyanka Gandhi at Kaniyaram near Manathavadi while she was on the way to Pancharakolli, protesting over her alleged delay to visit the Wayanad district as an MP, following the panic created by a man-eater tigress since January 24. However, as police blocked the protesters, they could not disturb the AICC leader's scheduled journey to Wayanad...////...
