Malappuram, Jul 21 (Reporter) Kerala Health Minister Veena George said all the seven samples sent for Nipah testing to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune tested negative on Sunday.
The results of three samples each sent to NIV for testing on second day after outbreak of Nipah, received in the evening, were cited as negative, so there is no reason to panic, she informed.
After the outbreak of Nipah virus at Malappuram, a 14-year-old Nipah infected boy died today.
The funeral function of the boy will be held at Malappuram following the guidelines of WHO protocol and the body was brought to Malappuram in an ambulance from Kozhikode Medical College hospital with the pilot of the police at night.
The minister said that all preventive measures have been arranged by the Health, Revenue and Police
departments to prevent the spread of Nipah virus at Pandikkad and Anakkayam panchayats in the district and set up a control room to help the people.
At present, there are 330 people listed in the Nipah contact list in the district, out of which 68 are health workers, while 101 people are in the high-risk category.
Seven people, who came in direct contact with the victim including the parents, were admitted to the isolation wards at Kozhikode Medical College hospital (KMCH) and Manjeri Medical College hospital (MMCH).
The sample of a 68-year-old man from Thovvor, who was shifted to KMCH from MMCH in the morning with high fever, was also tested negative, however, he was admitted in Intensive Care Unit at KMCH.
Ms George said that during a fever survey conducted at 307 houses in Pandikkad, it was found that 18 persons were affected by fever.
While a fever survey conducted in 310 houses at Anakkayam panchayats, 10 fever cases were found on Sunday.
However, fever affected people were not listed in the epidemiological linkage with the victim, she added...////...
