Kalaburagi, Apr 17 (Reporter) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thurday distanced himself from the ongoing controversy surrounding the caste survey in Karnataka, stating that the matter falls within the purview of the State Government.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, "It is left up to the State Government. In every state, they will decide on their own. I have not seen the report or what was discussed in the Cabinet."
Kharge's remarks come amid a political row over the caste-based population survey conducted by the Siddaramaiah-led government, with the Opposition demanding greater transparency and accusing the ruling Congress of using the data for electoral gains.
While the State Government has maintained that the survey aims to ensure equitable distribution of resources and representation, the final report has yet to be officially released, sparking speculation and criticism from various quarters.
