Hyderabad, Oct 2 (Reporter) Union Coal and Mines Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy accused the Congress government of conspiring to demolish the houses of poor people residing in the catchment areas of Moosi under the pretext of beautifying the river.
He stated that several houses have already been demolished in certain areas as part of this project.
Speaking to the media during his visit to the affected families in Amberpet on Wednesday, Reddy expressed his outrage, stating, “These are not government-provided lands. These are homes built by the people with their hard work, brick by brick.”
Reddy criticized both the previous BRS government and the current Congress government for failing to protect the interests of the poor.
He emphasized that no government has the right to demolish the houses of underprivileged citizens.
“During the tenure of the former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Moosi beautification project was initiated, and a corporation named Sundaraikaran was formed, with former MLA Prem Singh Rathore as its chairman. At that time too, houses were marked for demolition in a similar manner,” he said.
Reddy further added that despite promises made during the BRS regime over the past decade to provide double-bedroom houses, not everyone has benefited from the scheme.
“The Congress government has announced a budget of Rs. 1.5 lakh crore for the state. If they are truly sincere, they should allocate Rs 50,000 crore to build houses for the poor who have none, instead of spending it on demolishing their existing homes,” he asserted.
The BJP leader warned that there will be serious consequences if the Congress government continues with its plans to demolish houses in the name of beautification.
“In Amberpet, we constructed roads for the poor, modernized the drainage system, issued ration cards, and provided house numbers. However, the Congress government has now decided to demolish these homes. We caution Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that any attempt to bring bulldozers to demolish a poor person’s house will not be tolerated,” he said sternly.
Reddy stated that the government’s intention to ‘beautify’ the Moosi river should not come at the cost of displacing the poor and pushing them into further hardship.
He urged the state government to reconsider its decision and ensure that the interests of the poor are safeguarded...////...
