Hyderabad, Apr 5 (Reporter), Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy paid homage to the statue of Babu Jagjivan Ram at Nizam College Grounds on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Reddy highlighted the nationwide celebration of Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti and recalled the pivotal role played by Ram in serving the nation. Born into the Dalit community, Babu Jagjivan Ram demonstrated exceptional service to the country, notably during the tumultuous period of 1977. Reddy emphasized Ram's defiance against the dictatorial policies of the Congress government and his subsequent alignment with the Janata Party, alongside prominent leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan and Morarji Desai. Ram's contributions as Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister during the Janata Party government were acknowledged by Reddy, who lamented the missed opportunity for Ram to assume the role of Prime Minister in 1980. Reddy lauded Ram's commitment to democracy, particularly his resilience during the Emergency declared by the Congress government in 1977, which saw widespread suppression of rights and freedoms. Recognizing Ram's significant role in uniting democratic forces, Reddy underscored the debt owed to Ram by the media and the nation at large.
