Kolkata, Jan 9 (Reporter) A city court hearing the alleged rape and murder case of a woman medic of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital will pronounce the verdict on January 18. The verdict will be pronounced exactly 68 days after the trial began on November 11 concerning the crime that happened on August 9, 2024 in the West Bengal government-owned medical facility, court sources said. Sanjay Roy, a former Civic Volunteer attached to Kolkata Police, is the only prime accused in the horrendous crime, which rocked the entire country, and abroad. The 31-year-old 2nd-year post-graduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar room of the cardiac Department of the Hospital on the 3rd floor where she had gone to rest after completing 36 hours of duty at a stretch, sources added. Kolkata Police arrested Sanjoy Roy hours after the incident and handed over the case to the CBI on August 22 after the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the federal agency. The CBI filed the charge sheet against Sanjay Roy holding him responsible for rape and murder and sought severe punishment, court sources added. Meanwhile, the government medics this afternoon took out a massive protest rally from North Kolkata to Esplanade seeking justice for the RGK doctor and claiming more than one person allegedly involved in the ghastly crime. The parents of the victim first approached the Calcutta High Court and then the Supreme Court with a plea for a fresh probe to unravel the “bigger” conspiracy behind the crime. The mother of the victim told reporters that Sanjay Roy is " guilty" but more persons are involved in the crime...////...
