Kolkata, Aug 23 (Reporter) A Kolkata court on Friday extended by 14 days the judicial custody Sanjay Roy, prime accused in the doctor murder and rape case, even as protesting doctors at RG Kar Hospital refused to return to OPDs and reiterated their demands for justice for their slain colleague and security at work place. Roy, who was arrested on August 9 evening by the Kolkata Police on charges of rape and murder of the 31-year old post-graduate woman medic at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was presented in the Sealdah court in central Kolkata which extended his judicial remand. The development came on a day when Calcutta High Court handed over the case of alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Hospital to the Central Bureau of Investigation, along with taking over the files from Kolkata Police. The federal agency is already investigating the murder and rape of the doctor in the institution on August 9. Meanwhile, the CBI has started preparing for conducting polygraph test on Roy, ousted principal of RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and five other medics of the hospital. A 10-member of the medics was formed to visit the CBI office at the CGO complex to demand speedy probe, said a doctor. "We do not see any visible evidence of the progress of the CBI investigation in the past 10 days and we believe the criminals are still roaming free in and around the hospital," said an agitating doctor. The medics have also called a mass convention on Saturday to decide the future course of their agitation which has got support from employees of civic bodies in demanding justice for the murdered medic and seeking safe atmosphere for women in all walks of life across the state. Earlier, the junior medics rejected an appeal by the state government to end their agitation. State health principal Narayan Swaroop Nigam on Friday appealed to doctors to resume normal duty. Nigam said the resident doctors were the backbone of the state medical services and the government respected their contribution to society. Reacting to Nigam's appeal, the striking junior doctors, who had already refused to join the duty despite the Supreme Court's appeal, said they will not attend non-emergency services until the fulfilment of their demands for justice for the murdered medic murder and security at working places were met. The parents of the murdered doctor on Friday offered to attend the mass movement, including that of the medics. "If they join us then our movement will get further boost up for the struggle for justice and safety for the women in the state," the medics said...////...
