Kolkata, Oct 14 (Reporter) Kolkata Metro Railway carried 50.5 lakh passengers last week during the Durga puja celebrations, the figure being 1.77 percent more than its commuters during the previous year's festival.
"Metro Railway has carried 50.5 lakh passengers from Chaturthi to Bijoyadashami this year, which is 1.77% more than last year's figure. Out of this, Blue Line (the North-South Metro) has ferried 44.19 lakh passengers,
"Green Line-1 has carried 2.53 lakh passengers, and Green Line-2 has carried 3. 79 lakh passengers on those six days," Kolkata Metro Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kaushik Mitra said in a media statement.
The Kolkata Metro Green Line refers to the East-West Metro, which now runs two truncated services, as the full stretch is not yet ready. The Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah segment is called Green Line-1, and the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section is christened Green Line-2. Work is still on in the stretch between Sealdah and Esplanade.
In Blue Line, the maximum passenger count was recorded at Dum Dum (4.43 lakhs) followed by Kalighat (3.61 lakhs) and Sovabazar-Sutanuti (3.11 lakhs) from Chaturthi to Bijoyadashami.
In Green Line-1, Sealdah registered the highest passenger footfall (around 1 lakh) followed by Salt Lake Sector V (47,894) and Phoolbagan (26,285) from Chaturthi to Bijoyadashami.
In Green Line-2, the maximum passenger count was recorded at Howrah (1.98 lakhs) followed by Howrah Maidan (1.23 lakhs) and Mahakaran (33,653) from Chaturthi to Bijoyadashami.
It is to be noted that in Blue Line, night-long services were run on Mahasaptami, Mahastami-Mahanabami and Dashami. On these three days, Green Line-2 services were run well after midnight.
