Bengaluru, May 10 (Reporter) In a significant development, a delegation from the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) led by former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy met Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot to seek his intervention in initiating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the ongoing sex video scandal involving Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna.
The scandal, which has rattled the political landscape of Karnataka, is currently under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police.
Prajwal, whose family holds significant political clout in the state being the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and son of JDS MLA HD Revanna, has found himself embroiled in controversy.
His father, HD Revanna, has been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a victim linked to the sex scandal.
Addressing the media after the meeting here on late Thursday evening, Kumaraswamy, who is the younger brother of HD Revanna, expressed grave concerns over the impartiality of the SIT probe. He remarked, "It is inconceivable to anticipate an unbiased, equitable, and impartial investigation from the SIT, given its evident entanglement and misdirection by the state government."
Kumaraswamy continued to assert the collusion among top officials, citing, "The conversation between BJP leader Devaraje Gowda and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has laid bare the entanglement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Deputy CM in the SIT investigation."
Accusing the state government of orchestrating a smear campaign against JDS and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy emphasised the need for a CBI inquiry. He claimed that Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar was behind the distribution of alleged incriminating materials across the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency.
"The SIT investigation is biased, partial, and lacks transparency. Victims are being intimidated into not filing complaints," Kumaraswamy alleged.
Highlighting the distress caused to the families of victims due to the circulation of alleged videos, Kumaraswamy called for the Governor's intervention to ensure justice. He accused the state government of exerting undue influence on the SIT's proceedings.
In a final appeal to the Governor, Kumaraswamy urged him to advise Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to remove Shivakumar from the Cabinet, alleging his involvement as the "mastermind" behind the scandal.
The unfolding scandal continues to grip the attention of Karnataka's political arena, with the JDS intensifying its efforts to push for a CBI investigation amid allegations of political manipulation and misconduct...////...
