Bengaluru, Aug 22 (Reporter) In light of the ongoing delay in prosecuting Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy in the Jantakal mining case, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Thursday clarified the BJP's stance by stating that if prima facie evidence against the former is found, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot would be expected to proceed with the necessary legal action.
Narayanaswamy's remarks highlighted the need for consistency in the legal process, particularly when compared to the swift action taken in a separate case involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
"The BJP’s position is clear—if the Governor finds prima facie evidence against Kumaraswamy, he would allow the investigation to proceed," the LoP stated, emphasising the party’s commitment to ensuring that legal processes are followed transparently and fairly.
He acknowledged that he did not have detailed knowledge of the specifics of Kumaraswamy's case but stressed that the party believes in impartial application of the law.
By focusing on the necessity of prima facie evidence, the BJP is underscoring its belief in the rule of law, advocating for justice based on facts rather than political considerations.
Narayanaswamy’s comments come at a time when Karnataka’s political landscape is particularly volatile. The state’s BJP unit has been facing internal challenges, especially after senior leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal made statements that have sparked controversy within the party.
He expressed the need for discipline within the party, stating that the central BJP leadership would soon address Yatnal's remarks and action. "The time has come to take a firm stand," Narayanaswamy said, indicating that the party’s leadership would not tolerate continued dissent.
Regarding a proposed padayatra to Ballari, which was reportedly planned to highlight concerns over alleged financial misappropriation in the SC Development Corporation, the BJP leader clarified that no such event is currently planned. He noted that similar issues had already been addressed during a previous march from Bengaluru to Mysuru, and any future yatra would involve full participation from the party leadership, including the state unit president.
Narayanaswamy signalled the BJP’s intent to increase its scrutiny of the ruling Congress government in Karnataka. He mentioned that the party might appeal to the President of India to consider action against the Congress-led administration, citing concerns over law and order situation in the state...////...
