Hyderabad, Sep 9 (Reporter) BRS Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) welcomed the State High Court's recent verdict directing a decision within four weeks regarding the case of MLAs who defected to the party.
Speaking on the issue, KTR highlighted the need for stricter laws against political defections, stating that this ruling is a "slap in the face" to the Congress party, which had encouraged defections in the past.
KTR reiterated the need for by-elections in the constituencies of defecting MLAs, criticizing both the Speaker and the Congress. He pointed out that the Supreme Court had mandated that complaints about defections must be resolved within three months, but the Speaker failed to act accordingly. He said the BRS approached the courts because the Speaker neglected to uphold democracy.
With the High Court's decision, KTR expressed confidence that by-elections in Telangana are now inevitable while criticizing Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, for their double standards on defections. He called on Congress to take action against Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of luring MLAs with false promises and neglecting the people’s interests.
KTR also referenced a statement by Revanth Reddy suggesting defecting MLAs be stoned, urging Reddy to instead hold accountable those who pressured the MLAs to switch parties.
