Hassan, Dec 23 (Reporter) Expressing deep dissatisfaction over the handling of the BJP MLC CT Ravi case by the Belagavi police, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy condemned the actions, claiming that if BJP members pursued legal action, the involved officers could face suspension. Speaking to the media at Haradanahalli on Monday, the former Chief Minister questioned the government's role and accountability in the incident. "They discussed Union Minister Amit Shah’s statements in the Rajya Sabha during the state Assembly session. This issue pertains to the Rajya Sabha. Is Amit Shah a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council?" he asked sarcastically, reflecting on what he perceived as the government's misguided priorities. Kumaraswamy further remarked, "Does this government care about the state's future?" He alleged that the government is misusing the police force to suppress political opponents, referring specifically to the case involving Ravi. "Was it necessary to drag CT Ravi around all night? He is an elected representative. If he needed to be arrested, he could have been directly presented before the magistrate's court in Bengaluru. What was the need for this humiliation? Who directed this?" he questioned. The Union Minister warned that if BJP members followed the correct legal path, police officers responsible for such actions could face suspension. "Any officer who mentally tortured Ravi under the influence of a Minister will have to face the consequences. This behaviour is unacceptable," he said. The former Chief Minister also warned that Karnataka is heading towards darker days as political vendettas take centre stage. "Minister Satish Jarkiholi asked for CT Ravi to be presented before the court, while others tell a completely different story. Does this state even have a home minister? Over the past six or seven months, several incidents related to law and order have taken place, yet the government remains silent. Karnataka is heading towards darker days as political vendettas and hatred rise," he stated. Lamenting the state of Karnataka’s police force, Kumaraswamy claimed that the system, once a model for the country, is now being tarnished by the current government. "Our forefathers built a robust system and created a healthy environment. Karnataka Police was respected nationwide. Unfortunately, this government is hell-bent on destroying it," he alleged. The JD(S) Senior leader cited examples, questioning the lack of action in the cases involving former minister Vinay Kulkarni and Congress leader Gurappa Naidu. "The Congress government is harassing political opponents in every possible way," he alleged. Kumaraswamy emphasised that he did not hold the entire police department responsible, but rather certain Ministers who, according to him, were directing select officers to make unlawful decisions. "Cases are being booked as per their whims, and their opponents are being crushed through abuse of power," he added...////...
