Bengaluru, July 28 (Reporter) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday confidently asserted that central minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy will not become the Chief Minister in 2028. This declaration came in response to Kumaraswamy's vow to revert Ramanagara's name if he gains power in the next election. Shivakumar accused Kumaraswamy of constantly plotting the Congress party’s downfall and centering his politics around it. He also claimed that the name change of Ramanagara was illegal during Kumaraswamy’s tenure and emphasiSed that the people of Ramanagara district are Bengalureans and will remain so. Shivakumar noted that Bengaluru was the district's name even when Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda were in power, but Kumaraswamy changed it during his tenure. He affirmed that the district’s administrative headquarters will retain the name Ramanagara. “We decided to rename the district to reflect our vision for its future. The people are pleased with this decision,” he asserted. On Friday, the Karnataka cabinet approved the renaming of Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, a decision promptly announced by Deputy CM Shivakumar. Defending the move, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge emphasised that the renaming aims to position Bengaluru as a premier investment destination. However, the decision has sparked controversy. BJP MP from Karnataka, Iranna Kadadi, condemned the move as a “political game” by the Deputy Chief Minister. BJP MP Pralhad Joshi also criticised the decision, accusing the Congress party of renaming the district out of spite and demonstrating their opposition to "Ram" and the Ram Mandir. Joshi claimed that the renaming of Ramanagara showed the Congress party's disdain for Ram, labeling it as vote-bank politics and real estate greed.
