Chennai, July 30 (Reporter) The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Tuesday condoled the loss of lives
in lanslides in Wayanad district of Kerala and said the Tamil Nadu government should learn
lessons from this and take steps to prevent illegal mineral mining in the Western Ghat areas
of TN.
In a statement here, PMK President and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss said the
1.60 lakh sqkm Wester Ghats that starts from Tamil Nadu and extends upto the Gujarat was
a big gift given to us by the nature.
Failure to protect the Western Ghats has led to landslides in Wayanad and other areas.
Alleging that Western Ghat areas in TN are being looted, Dr Anbumani, who is also a former
Union Minister, to take steps to prevent illegal mining.
He said it was saddening and worrisome to hear about reports that more than 50 people were
killed in the Wayanad landslides and that the toll could go up further.
Urging the Kerala and the Central governments to render all possible assistance in landslides
affected areas, Dr Anbumani said if needed, the Centre should deploy Army for rescue and
relief operations.
The Centre should provide all assistance in the affected areas for relief, rescue and
rehabilitation works.
He also condoled the deaths of three people in landslide and wall collapse at Valparai and
Pollachi in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu early today...////...
