Maha: Abu Salem, other high-profile inmates shifted from Taloja jail

Mumbai, Jul 18 (Reporter) Gangster and 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict, Abu Salem, and 17 other high-profile inmates lodged in Taloja Central Jail have been transferred to other jails or moved to the general barracks due to necessary repairs on the building, an official said here on Thursday. Besides Salem, other inmates include dismissed police officer Sachin Vaze, who is booked in the Antilia terror scare case, and several accused in the Elgaar Parishad case. Official further said that Salem has been transferred to Nasik Central Jail, while Vaze has been moved to Thane jail and other inmates have been shifted to general barrack of the jail. Taloja jail has a capacity to lodge around 2,124 prisoners, but currently houses over 3,000 inmates. The high-security prisoners are usually lodged in the “anda” cell or a separate building for security purposes. Authorities at Taloja jail reported that a structural audit conducted by the Public Works Department (PWD) in Panvel revealed that the high-security building was unsafe for use...////...
