Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dec 1 (Reporter) AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday demanded that to make elections transparent in the country, the Law Minister should not be on the committee that appoints the Chief Election Commissioner of the country.
Addressing a press conference here, he alleged that the Narendra Modi government has made a change in the constitution of the committee that appoints the CEC.
The Modi government's exclusion of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from this committee and inclusion of the Law Minister instead has raised a question mark, he pointed out.
The political parties and public will have confidence in the election process only if the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court should be in this committee, said Owaisi.
He informed that due to this change, the government is arbitrarily selecting officers of its choice as election officers.
In the assembly elections in Maharashtra, money was distributed openly to the voters, the AIMIM chief claimed and said that their candidate Imtiaz Jaleel, who contested from Aurangabad East constituency, had submitted a written complaint in this connection along with a video to the Election Commission.
Instead of investigating the matter, a case was registered against Jaleel, he noted.
The Election Commission did not take action against those who made controversial statements like crusade, fatwa against saffron, vote jihad, Katenge to Batenge, also money rained in the election, he alleged and raised a question then how this election can be called as 'transparent'.
"People will have faith in EC only if VVPAT should reflect 100 percent vote count," he said.
Targeting Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is calling for a scheme like Chief Minister's 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' to increase population of Hindus, Owaisi said, "If we look at the birth rate, the birth rate of the Muslim community has also decreased. After a few years, the population of senior citizens will increase in our country. Some BJP MPs are on one hand demanding that only those who have two children should get the benefit of the government scheme and on the other hand, Bhagwat is urging Hindus to have more than two children."
He vowed to strengthen the party organisation in the state...////...
