Mumbai, Aug 20 (Reporter) Hundreds of angry citizens came onto the streets and railway tracks in Badlapur town of neighbouring Thane district on Tuesday and disrupted train services over alleged sexual assault on two minor girls by a sweeper in the toilet of a prominent nursery school. At the same time, the opposition parties demanded the sacking of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, however Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered a high-level probe and promised that a special public prosecutor will be appointed, and the case will be fast-tracked. According to available details, the alleged incidents occurred on August 12-13 in a nursery school, run by the Adarsh Vidya Prasarak Sanstha (AVPS), came to light only after one of terrified minor victims complained of irritation in her private parts, and a doctor later confirmed the parents’ worst fears – that the girl had been sexually assaulted, and later the other incident also was revealed. There was reportedly a delay in responding to the crime from the police’s side before they finally filed the FIR (first information report) on August 16 and arrested the accused Akshay Shinde (23, a contractual sweeper). This has evoked widespread all-round condemnation and massive public demonstrations since this morning. Some of the agitators allegedly hurled stones during the protest, but the situation was soon brought under control. The protest has affected the movement of trains on both Up and Down routes since morning at around 0800 hours. The Central Railway said the suburban trains were stopped at the Badlapur railway station. “From 1010 hrs, the train movement is held up at the Badlapur railway station due to protests over non-railway issues,” CR officials said. The CR officials further said train operations in both directions had been completely stopped and five outstation trains had been diverted via the Karjat-Panvel route toward Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the police to impose the attempt to rape charge against the accused arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two girl students at a school in Thane's Badlapur. He also said that a special public prosecutor will be appointed and the case will be fast-tracked. Leaders of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi parties like Congress, NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), besides Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) attacked the government on the incident in the home district of Chief Minister Shinde. NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule said the incident is “very shocking and serious” and the state Home department must take note of the citizens’ anger. Congress Leader of Opposition (Assembly) Vijay Wadettiwar called up the Thane Police and demanded the suspension of the woman police official who reportedly made the victim’s parents sit in the police station for nearly 12 hours before taking their complaint last week. Leader of Opposition (Council) Ambadas Danve urged the government to ensure the strongest possible punishment for the accused to serve as a deterrent and book all others found guilty. Today, police teams have started investigation, including questioning the management and teachers, besides the non-teaching staffers of the nursery school, examination of the CCTV footage and other infrastructure at the school premises...////...
